Around the League – Week 6

The Pigskins (Diane) suffered their first loss of the season, dropping Soleil’s last undefeated team to third place overall, now 103.82 season points behind first place. One loss and suddenly Diane needs binoculars to read Eric’s score. The Pigskins still share the best record at 5-1, but apparently an undefeated streak doesn’t come with reserved parking at the top.

Congratulations to Buzzing Jackets (Eric Strevel), Soleil’s new overall leader, and 2-Min Drill (Jim Meeder), who holds second place. Gray-t Gridiron (Deb) ended Diane’s perfect run, while Touchdown Dance Denise claimed Week 6’s highest score across both conferences. Add another close call for Steve and a bargain-priced victory for Brian, and Soleil had plenty to talk about.

Soleil Standings Watch

The top three in Soleil’s combined AFC and NFC standings after Week 6 are:

  1. Buzzing Jackets (Eric Strevel), NFC: 5-1, with 777.00 season points.
  2. 2-Min Drill (Jim Meeder), NFC: 5-1, with 721.00 season points.
  3. The Pigskins (Diane), AFC: 5-1, with 673.18 season points.

Eric moved into first overall with a 129.56–91.70 victory over Super Bowl or Bust (Kurt), while Diane suffered her first loss against Gray-t Gridiron (Deb), 124.92–96.74.

Ground & Pound (Carol) completes the four-team group at 5-1, taking fourth overall with 651.70 season points.

Eric leads Jim Meeder by 56.00 season points. Denise has the second-highest season total across both conferences at 734.88, but her 4-2 record places her fifth overall. Fantasy football continues to offer excellent opportunities to say, “But look how many points I scored!”

Six teams sit at 4-2, so the leaders still have plenty of company in the rearview mirror.

Soleil High Score: Denise Dances Back to the Top

Touchdown Dance Denise scored 133.80 points, topping both conferences and defeating Overtime RICHARD, 86.50.

Denise bounced back from last week’s loss to Dave, improved to 4-2, and reclaimed the AFC scoring crown. She also delivered Soleil’s biggest victory of the week.

That’s a pretty complete response to a loss: win the next game, lead the scoring, and make sure the recap writer has to mention you several times.

NFC High Score: The Jackets Keep Buzzing

Buzzing Jackets (Eric Strevel) scored 129.56 points, defeating Super Bowl or Bust (Kurt), 91.70, to claim the NFC scoring crown for a second straight week.

The 37.86-point victory gave Eric his second consecutive win and moved him into first overall.

Kurt fell to 2-4 with a fourth straight loss. “Super Bowl or Bust” remains a fine team name, but Kurt would probably appreciate a little less emphasis on the second option.

Denise finished 4.24 points ahead of Eric in the battle between conference high scorers. Denise gets the weekly scoring honors; Eric gets to point at the overall standings. Both have something worth bringing to Chat.

Biggest Wins: Denise and Eric Leave Some Breathing Room

This week’s largest victories belonged to the conference scoring leaders:

  • AFC: Touchdown Dance Denise defeated Overtime RICHARD, 133.80–86.50, by 47.30 points.
  • NFC: Buzzing Jackets (Eric Strevel) defeated Super Bowl or Bust (Kurt), 129.56–91.70, by 37.86 points.

Denise improved to 4-2, while Richard fell to 3-3. Once again, Richard’s game ended without any serious threat of overtime.

Eric improved to 5-1 and leads both the NFC and Soleil overall. The Jackets appear to have decided that comfortable victories are much better for everyone’s blood pressure.

Closest Finish: Jim Holds On, Steve Checks the Decimals Again

Jim’s Fantasy Force (Jim Kappes) held off Let’s Go!! (Steve), 111.60–108.14, in Soleil’s closest matchup of Week 6.

The margin: 3.46 points.

Jim snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 4-2, taking third in the AFC and sixth overall.

Steve fell to 1-5 after another close defeat. Last week he lost by 0.18 points; this week it was 3.46. The margin is growing, Steve, but that probably isn’t the kind of progress you had in mind.

The NFC’s closest finish belonged to Barking Dawgs (Michael Parker), who defeated Sunday Funday (Glen), 104.50–93.14, by 11.36 points.

Michael earned his second straight win and reached 3-3, while Glen’s two-game winning streak ended at 2-4. The Dawgs spoiled Serenity Now’s perfect record last week and interrupted Sunday Funday this week. Somebody may need to check the leash.

AFC vs. NFC: AFC Wins the Weekly Honors, NFC Takes the Top Spots

The NFC holds first and second overall through Eric and Jim Meeder, with Carol in fourth. The AFC holds third through Diane and the next three spots through Denise, Jim Kappes, and Deb.

For Week 6:

  • Highest team score: AFC—Touchdown Dance Denise, 133.80.
  • Largest victory: AFC—Touchdown Dance Denise, 47.30 points.
  • Closest finish: AFC—Jim’s Fantasy Force, by 3.46 points.
  • Overall leader: NFC—Buzzing Jackets, 5-1, with 777.00 season points.
  • Undefeated teams remaining: None.

The AFC collected the weekly scoring and margin highlights. The NFC has the top two overall teams. Both sides should have enough material to keep Chat interesting.

Player Highlights

Trevor Lawrence led the player highlights in both conferences with 28.34 fantasy points.

One quarterback, two conference scoring crowns. That certainly makes handing out the weekly awards easier.

Cam Skattebo was listed at 0 in the AFC highlights, while Trevor Etienne finished at -0.10 in the NFC.

Zero is frustrating. Negative points add the special experience of watching your total move in the wrong direction. Managers generally prefer their players to contribute to their own score.

Around the League Notes

Gray-t Gridiron (Deb) handed The Pigskins (Diane) their first loss, 124.92–96.74. Deb earned her second straight victory and improved to 4-2. Diane remains first in the AFC at 5-1, but the undefeated run is over. After a few narrow escapes, The Pigskins finally met an opponent who wasn’t interested in a suspenseful ending.

Brown Paper Baggers (Brian) defeated Tipsy Tacklers (Angie), 63.50–58.56, earning a second straight win and improving to 2-4. Last week Brian needed 115.30 points to win; this week 63.50 was enough. Apparently, the Paper Baggers have discovered discount shopping in the win column. Angie’s 58.56 was the AFC’s lowest score, and the Tacklers fell to 2-4 with a fourth straight loss.

Motor City Cats (Rick) defeated Brooke View Trailblazers (Sheila / Mitch), 89.20–82.24, to reach 3-3. The Trailblazers remain last in the AFC at 1-5. Last week’s first victory earned a joke about a one-week contract extension. Sheila and Mitch may want to schedule another meeting with management.

Out of my way (Dave) defeated NO Kneelers (Joe), 75.22–63.26, earning his third straight win and moving to 4-2. Dave followed last week’s 140.38-point scoring crown with a much quieter victory. The points were fewer, but the win counts exactly the same. Joe fell to 3-3.

2-Min Drill (Jim Meeder) earned his fifth straight victory and improved to 5-1. Jim hasn’t lost since the opener. Apparently, two minutes is plenty of time to build a five-game winning streak.

Ground & Pound (Carol) won her fourth straight game to reach 5-1, while FowlBall (John Fowler) earned a third consecutive victory and improved to 4-2. There are some awfully warm teams near the top of the NFC.

Any Given Pam returned to the win column and improved to 2-4. After last week’s strong score against the wrong opponent, Pam finally got a result worth celebrating.

Serenity Now (Howard / David) and Senior Football (David McCleskey) each suffered a second straight loss, falling to 4-2 and 3-3, respectively. Howard and David may need to say “Serenity Now” a little louder.

Chris on 3 fell to 1-5 with a fifth consecutive defeat. A change in the streak would be welcome just about now.

Waddle we talking about here (Dan Gillis) scored 58.22, Soleil’s lowest total of Week 6, and remains last in the NFC at 0-6. Dan is still Soleil’s only manager seeking a first victory. Brian has now won two straight, and Sheila and Mitch have broken through. The welcome committee is ready, Dan—we’re just waiting for you to waddle through the door.

Got a victory speech, a bench-player regret, or a little friendly trash talk? Bring it to Chat. Denise has the week’s biggest score, Eric has first overall, Deb ended the undefeated streak, and Steve may have a proposal about banning close games.
