Week 6 AFC Recap
Week 6 brought a scoring sweep for Denise, the end of Diane’s undefeated run, and another close finish for Steve. Brian found a bargain in the win column, Dave kept his streak alive, and the AFC’s chase pack began sorting itself out—at least until next week.
Denise Takes Back the Dance Floor
Touchdown Dance Denise earned Week 6’s scoring honors with 133.80 points, defeating Overtime RICHARD, 86.50.
The 47.30-point victory was the AFC’s largest margin of the week—and the biggest across both Soleil conferences. Denise improved to 4-2, holding second place in the AFC, while Richard fell to 3-3.
After Dave interrupted her touchdown dance last week, Denise reclaimed the floor. Richard apparently arrived without his dancing shoes—or enough points to request overtime.
Gray-t Gridiron Ends the Perfect Season
Gray-t Gridiron (Deb) defeated The Pigskins (Diane), 124.92–96.74, handing Soleil’s last undefeated team its first loss.
The 28.18-point victory gave Deb her second straight win and moved her to 4-2, fourth in the AFC.
Diane remains atop the conference at 5-1, but slips from first to third in the overall Soleil standings.
After a couple of narrow escapes, The Pigskins finally ran into someone who wasn’t interested in a dramatic ending. Deb skipped the suspense and went straight to the celebration.
Closest Finish: Jim Holds On, Steve Falls Short Again
Jim’s Fantasy Force (Jim Kappes) defeated Let’s Go!! (Steve), 111.60–108.14, in the AFC’s closest matchup of Week 6.
The 3.46-point margin snapped Jim’s two-game losing streak and moved him to 4-2, third in the conference.
Steve fell to 1-5 after a second straight close defeat. Last week it was 0.18 points; this week it was 3.46.
“Let’s Go!!” continues to sound more like a plea than a celebration. Jim gets a much-needed win, while Steve gets another reason to stare at his bench and reconsider every lineup decision.
Dave Keeps Moving; Joe Takes a Step Back
Out of my way (Dave) defeated NO Kneelers (Joe), 75.22–63.26, earning his third straight victory.
The 11.96-point win moved Dave to 4-2 and fifth place in the AFC. Joe fell to 3-3, taking sixth on season points.
Dave scored 140.38 last week and needed only 75.22 this time. Apparently, once you’ve cleared a path, you can ease off the accelerator.
Joe’s team name says “NO Kneelers,” but a few more players standing up and scoring would have helped.
Brian Bags Another Win; Motor City Gets Rolling
Brown Paper Baggers (Brian) defeated Tipsy Tacklers (Angie), 63.50–58.56, earning a second consecutive victory and improving to 2-4.
The 4.94-point margin wasn’t much, but Brian had everything he needed. Last week he won with 115.30 points; this week he discovered the economy package.
Nobody is framing this box score, but Brian is absolutely keeping the win.
Angie’s 58.56 was the AFC’s lowest score. The Tacklers fell to 2-4 with a fourth straight loss, remaining ninth ahead of Brian on season points.
Motor City Cats (Rick) defeated Brooke View Trailblazers (Sheila/Mitch), 89.20–82.24, by 6.96 points, improving to 3-3.
The Trailblazers couldn’t build on last week’s first victory and remain twelfth at 1-5. That joke about a one-week contract extension may have been a little too accurate. Sheila and Mitch might want to bring cookies to the next management meeting.
Player Highlights: Lawrence Leads the Way
Trevor Lawrence topped the AFC’s player highlights with 28.34 fantasy points, matching his conference-leading total in the NFC.
Cam Skattebo was listed at 0 in the AFC’s lowest-player highlight. Managers hoping for a boost from that lineup spot were left waiting.
Lawrence supplied the fireworks. Skattebo’s spot on the scoreboard was considerably quieter.
Standings Watch: Diane Leads, Four Teams Follow
The Pigskins (Diane) remain first at 5-1, followed by four teams at 4-2, ordered by season points:
- Touchdown Dance Denise: 734.88 points.
- Jim’s Fantasy Force (Jim Kappes): 706.38 points.
- Gray-t Gridiron (Deb): 689.30 points.
- Out of my way (Dave): 620.38 points.
NO Kneelers, Overtime RICHARD, and Motor City Cats sit at 3-3, holding sixth through eighth.
Tipsy Tacklers and Brown Paper Baggers follow at 2-4, while Let’s Go!! and Brooke View Trailblazers round out the conference at 1-5.
Diane still has a one-game lead, but four challengers are now within reach. Denise leads the AFC in season scoring, Dave has won three straight, and Deb just demonstrated that the first-place team can be beaten. Nobody should get too comfortable.
Looking Ahead
Denise takes the scoring crown and biggest victory, Deb ends the perfect season, and Jim Kappes gets back into the win column. Dave makes it three straight, Brian makes it two, and Rick brings Motor City back to .500.
Week 7 gives the chase pack another chance to close the gap. Check those lineups, watch the bye weeks, and keep the friendly trash talk coming. Steve would probably settle for a comfortable win—and a week without discussing decimal places.
