Week 5 AFC Recap
Week 5 brought a scoring sweep for Dave, another narrow escape for Diane, and a finish so close that Sheila and Mitch may want to frame the final score. Both previously winless teams broke through, while the AFC’s crowded chase pack continued trading places.
Dave Says “Out of My Way”—and Means It
Out of my way (Dave) earned Week 5’s scoring honors with 140.38 points, defeating Touchdown Dance Denise, 98.46.
The 41.92-point victory gave Dave his second straight win and moved him to 3-2.
Denise led the AFC in scoring last week, but this week Dave cut in on the touchdown dance. With seven teams now holding winning records, “Out of my way” is becoming less a team name and more a traffic advisory.
Gray-t Gridiron Claims the Biggest Win
Gray-t Gridiron (Deb) defeated Overtime RICHARD, 137.44–94.44, earning the AFC’s largest margin of victory at 43.00 points.
Deb improved to 3-2, matching Richard’s record and moving ahead of him in the standings.
There was nothing gray about this result. Deb took control, and Richard’s team never got close enough to request overtime.
Closest Finish: Trailblazers Win by a Whisker
Brooke View Trailblazers (Sheila/Mitch) edged Let’s Go!! (Steve), 124.60–124.42, in the closest AFC matchup of the week.
The 0.18-point margin delivered the Trailblazers’ first victory after four straight losses. After falling just 1.70 points short against Diane last week, Sheila and Mitch finally landed on the happy side of a nail-biter.
Steve’s “Let’s Go!!” may have turned into “You’ve Got to Be Kidding Me!!” That’s a tough loss—and a very small amount of football separating celebration from disbelief.
The Pigskins Keep Finding a Way
The Pigskins (Diane) defeated Jim’s Fantasy Force (Jim Kappes), 138.40–134.06, to remain undefeated at 5-0.
The 4.34-point victory kept Diane atop both the AFC and the overall Soleil standings. Jim posted the week’s fourth-highest AFC score and still took his second straight loss, falling to 3-2.
Diane won by 1.70 last week and 4.34 this week. Apparently, the Pigskins’ season plan includes winning games and testing everyone’s blood pressure.
Brian Bags His First Win; Joe Tackles Tipsy
Brown Paper Baggers (Brian) defeated Motor City Cats (Rick), 115.30–103.32, securing his first win and improving to 1-4.
After posting last week’s lowest score, Brian bounced back with a 11.98-point victory. The paper bag can come off this week. Rick, meanwhile, went from Week 4’s biggest winner to helping someone else celebrate a breakthrough.
NO Kneelers (Joe) defeated Tipsy Tacklers (Angie), 109.16–94.00, by 15.16 points, moving to 3-2 and third place.
Angie finished with the AFC’s lowest score and fell to 2-3 after a third straight loss. The Tipsy Tacklers could use a steadier step next week.
Standings Watch: Diane Leads a Crowded Chase
The Pigskins lead at 5-0, followed by six teams tied at 3-2: Touchdown Dance Denise, NO Kneelers, Jim’s Fantasy Force, Gray-t Gridiron, Overtime RICHARD, and Out of my way.
Motor City Cats and Tipsy Tacklers sit at 2-3. Let’s Go!!, Brown Paper Baggers, and Brooke View Trailblazers round out the standings at 1-4.
With Brian and the Trailblazers both winning, every AFC team now has a victory. Sheila and Mitch remain twelfth on total points, but that first win should feel considerably better than last week’s near miss.
Looking Ahead
Dave takes the scoring crown, Deb delivers the biggest win, and Diane keeps her perfect record intact. Brian gets into the win column, Joe climbs to third, and Sheila and Mitch prove that sometimes 0.18 points is all the breathing room you need.
Week 6 offers another chance to untangle the crowded standings. Check those lineups, watch the bye weeks, and keep those touchdown dances ready. Steve may need a little longer before he feels like dancing.
