Week 5 NFC Recap
Week 5 brought a changing of the guard, a nail-biter for Jim, and a reminder that scoring well doesn’t always mean winning. Four teams now sit at 4-1, with Buzzing Jackets claiming the top spot. Serenity Now finally lost—and presumably spent Sunday evening repeating the team name louder.
Eric Brings the Buzz
Buzzing Jackets (Eric Strevel) earned Week 5’s scoring honors with 142.12 points, defeating Any Given Pam, 132.54.
The 9.58-point victory moved Eric into first place, with 647.44 total points providing the edge among the four teams tied at 4-1.
Pam put up the week’s fourth-highest score and still took a loss. “Any Given Pam” apparently comes with fine print: results may vary depending on the opponent.
Closest Finish: Jim Survives Kurt’s Super Bowl Bid
2-Min Drill (Jim Meeder) edged Super Bowl or Bust (Kurt), 141.24–135.46, in Week 5’s closest matchup.
The 5.78-point margin sent Jim to 4-1 and left Kurt at 2-3, despite posting the NFC’s third-highest score.
Jim lived up to the team name by squeezing out a close one. Kurt’s “Super Bowl or Bust” campaign remains alive, although this week leaned a little toward the bust.
Biggest Win: FowlBall Flies Past Chris
FowlBall (John Fowler) defeated Chris on 3, 134.10–91.10, delivering the week’s largest victory at 43.00 points.
After winning Week 4’s closest matchup, John apparently decided suspense was overrated. He improved to 3-2, while Chris fell to 1-4.
Chris on 3 may want to try Chris on 4. At this point, changing the channel couldn’t hurt.
The Dawgs Disturb the Serenity
Barking Dawgs (Michael Parker) handed Serenity Now (Howard / David) its first loss, winning 112.44–98.30.
Michael improved to 2-3, while Howard and David slipped from first to fourth place at 4-1. The undefeated run is over, and the Dawgs have earned the right to bark about it.
Serenity Now still has an excellent record. The serenity itself may need a little maintenance.
Carol Wins the Grinder; Glen Keeps Sunday Fun
Ground & Pound (Carol Stack) held off Senior Football (David McCleskey), 91.10–84.82, by 6.28 points.
A week after leading the league in scoring, Carol proved she could win without fireworks. Ground & Pound improved to 4-1, while Senior Football fell to 3-2 with the week’s lowest score. This one was less track meet, more “somebody find the end zone.”
Meanwhile, Sunday Funday (Glen) defeated Waddle we talking about here (Dan Gillis), 134.08–95.88.
Glen earned his second straight win and moved to 2-3. Dan remains 0-5, making the team name an increasingly reasonable question at the Monday morning meeting.
Standings Watch: Four at the Front
Buzzing Jackets, 2-Min Drill, Ground & Pound, and Serenity Now all stand at 4-1, ranked in that order by total points.
Senior Football and FowlBall follow at 3-2, while Sunday Funday, Super Bowl or Bust, and Barking Dawgs sit at 2-3.
Any Given Pam and Chris on 3 are 1-4, and Waddle we talking about here is still looking for that first win.
Looking Ahead
Eric takes the scoring crown and first place, Jim escapes with the closest win, and John pockets the biggest victory. Michael ends the undefeated streak, Carol keeps pace, and Glen makes another Sunday live up to its name.
Week 6 brings another chance to shake up a crowded race. Check those lineups, watch the bye weeks, and remember: a great score is nice, but a great score against the right opponent is even better.
